Site Investigation, In-Situ Testing and Laboratory Assessment

ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The first day will consist of a series of lectures and discussions on site investigation and in-situ testing. SAIEG is pleased to announce that the eminent Dr Frank Netterberg will be delivering the keynote opening address for the seminar. The importance of the quality of site investigation will be illustrated by a lecture on arbitration. The current state of practice of soil profiling and core logging in South Africa will be discussed. The morning session will conclude with a geotechnical engineer’s view on site investigation.
The afternoon session on day one will focus on in-situ testing and talks will be presented on geophysical methods for site investigation, DPSH and CPTu testing, hyper spectral core scanning as well as CSW and plate load testing.
Day two will be dedicated to geotechnical laboratory testing and presentations will focus of triaxial testing and interpretation, testing of dispersive soils, variability in laboratory test results for aggregates, DCP & CBR correlations as well as laboratory testing for tailings. The second day will be concluded with a site visit to the laboratory of STL in Koedoespoort, Pretoria.
Presentations will be of a technical nature and will consider that the target audience in attendance are engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers of varying experience.
