President’s Communique – December 2021

PRESIDENT’S COMMUNIQUE – DECEMBER 2021

Dear SAIEG Members,

With 2021 coming to a close, it seemed that we were gaining control over Covid-19.  Unfortunately, the new variant and increasing numbers are likely to lead to a fourth wave of infections.  Hopefully we still get to enjoy the festive season despite this.

Gala Dinner/Award Event

We managed to have an award event in October 2021 at Irene Dairy in Centurion.  We changed the format of the event to a Saturday afternoon outdoor event, and I think this worked well.  We had 56 people attend and it was a lovely, relaxed family event.  We finally managed to give awards out from 2020 as well as the 2021 awards.  In 2020 the SAIEG Gold Medal Award was given to Dr. GV Price in recognition of his outstanding lifelong service to the profession of Engineering Geology in South Africa.  He finally received this and we decided not to award this for 2021 so that GV could get his due.  We may keep this Saturday afternoon format for the future awards event.  We would love your feedback on this.

Therefore, you should easily get all your points for this cycle.

We are still trying to populate the SACNASP online CPD system with papers.  The system allows for approved articles to be uploaded and a short test to be taken and be given a 0.1 point for Category 1.  Please do send us articles of interest.

This is my second communication for the year and I can’t believe this year is almost over.  With the fourth wave almost on us I wish you all a healthy, safe and restful festive season. Safe travels!

Regards,
