Code of Practice: The Safety of Persons Working in Small Hole Diameter Shafts and Test Pits for Geotechnical Engineering Purposes (2007). Published by The Geotechnical Division of SAICE. This code applies to geotechnical personnel who descend into small diameter shafts or into test pits for the purpose of describing and sampling the soil profile or performing in situ tests for site investigation.

Progressive engagement between CGS and Competent Person in a phased approach is no longer feasible and it is necessary that Competent Persons take greater responsibility. The CGS trusts that this document provides adequate coverage of requirements in this regard.
