This award is awarded annually to recognise the best MSc or PhD dissertation/thesis completed by a SAIEG member.

Any member (or university) is allowed to submit nominations to the SAIEG Council Awards Portfolio Manager. Nominations will be distributed to suitable reviewers for assessments to be made and submitted to the SAIEG Council.

Based on the assessments, the SAIEG council will make a decision on the eligibility of nominations for the award and the overall award winner from the eligible nominations. The SAIEG Council may decide to award both the best PhD and best MSc contribution in the same year if exceptional nominations are received at both levels.

The recipient will be invited to attend the SAIEG Gala Dinner where the award will be announced and presented to the recipient.

The award will consist of:

• An award certificate
• 1 year complimentary membership with SAIEG for the current membership class of the member
• A SAIEG geological pick
• An invitation to the SAIEG Gala Dinner where the award will be handed over
• Nominal cash prize or book voucher
